Travel in Japan: 7. travel (subway, train, bus)

for our travel between one city and another will use the Japan Rail Pass.
It 's a very useful and economical to move to Japan. The Japan
Rial pass is a subscription that lasts can have weekly or bi-weekly and is open only to tourists.

The cost depends on the length of the class and you will buy.
For our trip we chose a second class that is valid for one week, the total cost was 390 euro. We bought at the 'agency Jalpak of Rome, this amount includes:
- the cost of two adult tickets;
- management expenses;
- sent by courier Subscriptions: Subscriptions are arrived a couple of days after confirmation of payment.

Here you will find different types of subscriptions, or a subscription divided by "zones" of Japan: Do not worry, your subscription is the Jalpak " full ", with which you can cross all over Japan, if you wish.

usage rules of the Japan Rail Pass: beware, your subscription you purchase in Italy is not "directly" good to go up on Japanese trains, but you will need to convert to and activates an office authorized. You will find many, such as Tokyo's Narita airport directly, or multiple (three or four!) In Tokyo Station, the main station in the heart of Tokyo. For hotels with booking.com we solved, and I must say that the prices we were amazed.
Our package includes an overnight stay as the only city to just Tokyo and Kyoto, and here we found two 3-star hotel, but small plants and the fraction of the cost ... think about every night there costs less of 80 €, breakfast and all inclusive! In Italy in major cities and tourist facilities or in the very 'unthinkable find these prices! ; D

Then, with regard to accommodation at the Hotel Tokyo Kitcho, a three star hotel located in the "neighborhood of the Dolls", a couple of stops from Ginza (the fashion district). We stay the night here on arrival (3 nights) and then for another 4 nights when we come back from Kyoto.
The hotel seems nice: the areas "public" are Japanese style, the room we have chosen and 'Western-style. There is also room in oriental style, but they cost a lot more 'and booking was not available.
Obviously there is room in 'the bathroom (note to cheap hotels in Japan, often the bathroom is not 'inclusive Always check!). In the room we will also have a microwave to heat some quick and inexpensive meal. :) On
booking is not 'including breakfast, for which you must pay separately 1100 yen (about € 8) per person and payable locally.
In our budget we have provided for this expenditure.

For the overnight stay in Kyoto, we chose the Kyoto Garden Hotel, a three-star hotel centrally located. Do you think that Kyoto has only two subway lines that pass through a horizontal and a vertical line, forming a "cross": Well, the hotel 'a stone's throw from where and' can take both ... convenient! :)
Also in this hotel is not 'provided breakfast: here we have to pay 840 yen, or about 5 € each.

ultimately pay less than € 70 per night at this hotel, breakfast included.

is one of the sore points of the trip to Japan: the flight! I calculated that nearly half the entire budget of the trip is spent to buy the flight round trip from Italy to Japan ... (

Anyway, we purchased a flight + additional services in these days, using one of the latest offers available in the network provided by British Airways.

In detail, the website www.ba.com British Aiways we found one of the more attractive prices at 295 + each way airport charges. The only drawback to this is that we will have a stopover in London (Heathrow Airport). As for payment, we supported a travel agent ( www.ventur.it ), we have also added some insurance that allows us to stay calm area in Japan, so we bought insurance cancellation (80 € in two) and another insurance that covers medical expenses up to 30,000 € (113 € more and cost for both).

recap:

1. Flight Rome - Tokyo (via London) round trip for two people;
2. Cancellation insurance (for two tickets);
3. Medical insurance up to € 30,000;

Total: 1,830 € for two people.

+ Alternative economic ...
In fact we tried to find the solution that is economical but also comfortable enough that would allow us to make a safe and quiet.
Indeed there was a way to make the cost even less, how?
1) Buying a cheaper flight: between the companies had reliable seen Finnair ( www.finnair.com ), whose flights are cheaper by about € 150/200, but the flights will leave only three times a week ( British Instead Airways has daily departures) and calling at Helsinki, but the biggest problem is the time between a flight and another is too short (only 45 minutes return flight).
2) do not buy insurance on the cancellation of the flight (you save € 80);
3) not acuiqstando medical insurance: save about 113 euro per couple. However it does not seem a suitable choice whereas in Japan the hospital costs are very high ... Alternatively, there are cheaper insurance: there is another 20 euro per person but will cover up to 5,000 euro spent ... with this insurance save another € 90.

short, if you want to keep costs to a minimum, I think you could get away with € 1,500 per couple, but remember that you must book your flights at least 2 / 3 months before! :)

Other possibilities:
If you are young - up to 25 years - remember that there are special rates for you! www.jalpak.com offers flights to 700 € departure from Rome.
Finally, if you do not want to make stops in other European cities, the companies that do direct flights from Italy (Rome and Milan) in Japan are Alitalia, JAL (Japan Airlines) and ANA (All Nippon Airlines).

Travel in Japan: 2. Expenses, (introduction)

Since all agencies have told us that Japan is inaccessible to its high costs, we started to inform us, and after some 'research on the internet we have almost got the figures accettabilissime for a trip halfway around the world and lasts 13 days (11 nights in hotels in Japan).

To be honest, we should spend roughly two in 4000 €, all included!
And all I mean everything! Airline tickets, Hotel 3 stars Central (!), Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), travel by train from one city to 'the other, metro tickets, tour guides, entrance fees to museums, various types of insurance, ...

Tell me, I'll have 'forgotten something? ... : P
short, about 2000 € per person seems a figure ragionavole.

We are organizing a trip to Japan , to do this spring.
total will be 13 days (including flights), and we do not rely on any tour operator ... are too expensive! , P

Here is our travel program:

• Day 1: Departure from Rome with British flight Airways (via Heathrow);

• 11 days, if good weather, full day in Hakone / Mt Fuji. Back in Tokyo in the evening, otherwise we will decide whether to go or to stay in Tokyo also;
  
  
• Day 12: Tokyo;
  
  
• day 13: back in Italy, flights from Tokyo Narita at 11.00. Arrival at Rome Fiumicino airport at about 21:45;
